RECOMMENDED FOR READERS 18 AND OLDER DUE TO
STRONG LANGUAGE, SEXUAL SITUATIONS AND VIOLENCE
Out of Time is book two in a series. It is not a standalone novel. I highly recommend that you read my first novel, Nine Minutes, to be able to understand the background stories of the main characters. There are many twists and turns in both stories that can best be connected if read consecutively.
Although I do answer all of the outstanding questions from Nine Minutes, there is more to this story, and some readers may consider it a cliffhanger. If you do not like cliffhangers, you may want to wait until the third novel is released in 2016.
They thought with his execution it would all be over.
They were wrong.
The leader of one of South Florida’s most notorious and brutal motorcycle gangs has been put to death by lethal injection. Days later, his family and friends should have been picking up the pieces, moving on. Instead, they’ve been catapulted into a world so twisted and dangerous even the most ruthless among them would be stunned to discover the tangled web of deception, not only on the dangerous streets of South Florida but all the way to the top.
In this gripping follow-up novel to Nine Minutes, Out of Time takes readers from the sun-drenched flatlands of 1950s Central Florida to the vivid tropical heat of Fort Lauderdale to the halls of Florida’s Death Row as we finally learn the gritty backstory of Jason “Grizz” Talbot and the secret he spent his life trying to conceal.
Not even Grizz’s inner circle knows his full story—the tragedy that enveloped his early life, the surprise discovery that made him the government’s most wanted and most feared, and the depths of his love for Ginny, the tenderhearted innocent he’d once abducted and later made his wife.
Once Grizz’s obsession and now the mother of his child, Ginny has spent years grieving the man she’d first resisted and then came to love. Now remarried to Tommy, a former member of the gang, the pair have spent more than a decade trying desperately to live a normal existence far from the violent, crime-ridden world they’d once carved out on the edge of the Florida Everglades. For Tommy, especially, the stakes are high. Desperately in love with Ginny for years, he’s finally living his dream: married to the woman he never thought he could have. But even with the façade of normalcy—thriving careers, two beautiful children, and a genuinely happy and loving marriage—they can’t seem to put the past behind them. Every time they turn around, another secret is revealed, unraveling the very bonds that hold them together.
And with Grizz finally put to death, now Ginny has learned secrets so dark, so evil she’s not even sure she can go on.
Will these secrets tear their love to pieces? And how far will Grizz go to protect what he still considers his, even from beyond the grave?

EXCERPT

1979
“Yes! There is something I want for my birthday. Something I really want! I’ve been thinking about our prom date last year.”
“You want another romantic night at Martin’s beach house?” He grinned, relieved. A night making love with Kit at the beach house. Ohhhhh yeahhhh.
“No. Not the beach house.” She was bouncing in her seat now. “I want you to take me out! Dancing. I want to go to a club and go dancing.”
His smile faded and he looked a little deflated. He wasn’t going to tell her his name. He wasn’t going to go to church with her. How could he tell her no to the third thing she’d asked for?
“Shit, baby. You have to know I’m not a dancer. I barely got by with the slow dancing in Martin’s gazebo.”
“I want to go dancing, Grizz. Please! The only time I ever get to dance is when I convince Axel to dance with me in number four. And you know that’s barely ever. He won’t do it if there are a lot of people at the motel. He doesn’t want to risk being seen.”
Grizz had to smile at this. He’d walked in more than once on Axel and Kit dancing to one of those groups that Kit loved. If you asked him, those guys’ voices sounded like someone had their balls in a vice. A high-pitched squeal is all he ever heard and he never stayed around long enough to listen to an entire song.
“Why do you dance to a song about a bald-headed woman?” He’d asked her once.
Axel and Kit had stopped and peered at him strangely. “What do you mean by bald headed woman?” Kit had asked as Grizz turned the stereo down.
“These guys, who sound like women, are singing about a bald-headed woman,” Grizz replied.
She’d started laughing. “The Bee Gees are saying ‘more than a woman,’ Grizz. Not bald-headed woman! The song is called More Than a Woman and I happen to love it.”
“Whatever it’s called, it still sucks. I’m outta here.”
Grizz appreciated that Axel danced with his wife. And yes, he knew Axel’s other secret, too. He honestly didn’t care. He didn’t care what any guy decided to do with his dick as long as it was never near his wife. But he also knew he had to keep Axel’s secret. As leader, he had final say as to who could be in the gang. Still, he knew not everyone would be tolerant of Axel’s lifestyle. It was just easier to let it stay a secret. And besides, he was certain nobody suspected a thing.
“I don’t dance, Kit.” Grizz said now, shaking his head.
“But I want to go dancing for my birthday.” She folded her arms and gave him an accusing look. “You asked!”
He shook his head slightly and looked at her. “Can’t I just buy you another car?”

Red Alert Red Alert!!!
Hellacious Book Hangover alert!!!

OMG... Beth Flynn is a genius... seriously!
This is one of the most intricately woven stories I have ever read!!!
The shock and awe.. the feels.. omg the feels throughout all of it.
I was literally heartbroken for Grizz.. I seriously was truly truly sad.

And how much could Ginny deal with????
It was like a heavyweight bout with blow after blow after blow hitting her with no reprieve!
Anyone would have lost it, curled up in the fetal position and drooled forever.

I really want a power point chart to exactly pinpoint all that is revealed!
It is immensely overwhelming.. you have no idea!!!
And even though you get SOOOOOOOOO much information that your jaw is permanently plastered to the floor...
The genius that is Beth Flynn.. weaves even more secrets and you are left with the most amazing book hangover!!

I refuse to give you even one little tidbit... I can't even explain the smallest of things from this story...
I really want you to experience it all for yourself...
Be prepared.. you will at times, question your sanity.
And just when you think you have a grasp on what is going on...
You come to the startling realization that there is so much more.. that your own mind works against you,
and you just can't fathom what is going on, nor what could possibly be next!!

This is top of my fave books ever!!!

Out of Time is a very clever, intricate sequel with a timeline that will blow your mind! Grunt, Ginny and Grizz come together in this collaboration that synchronises the past and present with harmonious precision. Every little open plot conspiracy is closed, questions answered, truths revealed, but just when you think you have it nailed down... BAM! Another spanner is thrown into the whole workings and you close this book feeling a little awed and a whole lot excited for the next book.

I don't know how she did it... my goodness, I can't imagine how many reams of paper Beth Flynn must have on plotting the timeline events but her technical accuracy from what I could tell, is faultless.

This is one of those books that is almost impossible to overview. I wouldn't know where to start as this book covers separate timeframes; Grizz as a child in the 50's, Grunt as a young kid in the 70's then Ginny's introduction in the late 70's and 80's, to the present time in 2000. And yet the story flowed beautifully, captivating you whilst gradually painting you the complete picture... Or is it?

Due to the intricacy, my advice would be to read Nine Minutes and Out of Time back to back if you can, or do a re-read of N.M before jumping onto this sequel to experience it in the way it deserves.

Unfortunately, I did get a little confused in places because it has been a while since I read Nine Minutes and I forgot a couple of the character roles. With the time slots and certain plot scenarios, I trust the author implicitly with the design -- it's her book, her characters, her vision, and I feel overwhelmed to have been granted an ARC to escape within the confines of this impeccably delivered story. Yes, it is a long read and yes it is very wordy and dare I say it, not the easiest to connect to at times, but overall I have to say that Beth Flynn really is in a league of her own.

Absolutely spectacular!

Book 2 in the Nine Minutes series. This is very much a continuation of Nine Minutes and can only be read after that book. In fact, in my opinion it would be a good idea to re-read Nine Minutes before you even start Out of Time, to fully understand and remind yourself of both situations and characters. If you are yet to start this series, stop reading this review now as it contains spoilers relating to the storyline in Nine Minutes.

Firstly I need to tell you that I finished this book a week ago. I have spent the time since then mulling over everything I read and how I would even start to review a book like Out of Time. Nine Minutes was without doubt one of my favourite reads of 2014. It came out of the blue and very quickly had everyone talking. It was a book that stayed with me for different reasons. The storyline, the characters and the sheer talent of the writing had me captivated. I like many others have been anticipating the release of book 2, looking forward to where Beth Flynn would take us. Yes we may have had to wait, but now I've read it I totally understand why.

Unlike other books, I won't give you an overview - to be honest I would even know where to begin. What I will say is this book explores our main characters in more detail and it tells their stories in 3 very important (and specific to the story arc as a whole) timelines.

At the end of book 1 it became clear that Ginny/Kit had married Grunt/Tommy. To top that it was also revealed that Grizz was Grunt's father. This book follows the fall out after Grizz's execution. How does Ginny even comprehend the secrets and lies that have been kept from her whilst also having the pain of witnessing Grizz's execution. The fact that for the last 25 years she has lived a lie, been controlled and manipulated by the 2 men she loved and trusted. It's a emotional time for both Ginny and Tommy, and to pass it more secrets and lies will have to be revealed.

You then have the past. Of course Grizz has been executed, but we never did get his full story, his beginnings, what made him the force he became; we do now, and it will spin your mind. But it will also remind you that even though he was violent to the very core, he was still just a man. We all do what we need to survive, the choices we make can effect the path we set for the rest of our lives; Grizz's story is a testament to that. I have always had a soft spot for the doomed man though, and this book only reinforces that behind the darkness were indeed the chinks of light I thought I could see.

And finally Grunt's past. He holds more secrets than most and he has done his fair share of manipulating people and situations. Is it self serving? Or does he do it selflessly. Growing up in the life is tough, but falling in love with the one thing that is beyond his reach is worse. I came out of this knowing and understanding him a lot more. Should he have held onto secrets, well only Ginny can decide that. He wears his heart on his sleeve but has the inner darkness that only his DNA could dictate. Will he be able to save the one thing that he has always wanted? or will he be out of time?

Be warned this is a complex and detailed story, hence why I recommend you read Nine Minutes again. I did have to refer back a few times, but I didn't mind doing that. Beth Flynn has created the most detailed storyline I have ever had the pleasure of reading. You are bombarded with twists and turns almost immediately and I have to hold my hands up and say brav-fucking-o! How she even begun to concoct such a delicious recipe of deceit, lies, secrets, murder, kidnapping and love is beyond me. If you think you know where this story is going, think again! My fellow princess messaged me to say she was 95% in and she couldn't believe what had happened and then again at 100% to basically say WTF. And that's what this book is... A marvellous WTF book!

If you have been counting down the days to this release then get ready for the ride of your life. It will take you to many places and where it ends is anyone's guess. All I do know is that I will have to wait until 2016 to get there. But do you know what, I am more than happy with waiting if what we get is another masterpiece in classy and unique storytelling. Well done Ms Flynn, you smashed it!
